Gas Consumption

As part of its Green Management Program, the University of Zanjan has implemented effective measures to optimize natural gas usage.

An analysis of data from recent years indicates that through careful monitoring and precise management, the university has successfully directed its gas consumption toward greater efficiency, significantly reducing energy waste and improving overall performance in resource management.

Gas Consumption Control

  • Installation of Smart Temperature Control Systems – Intelligent systems for monitoring both indoor and outdoor temperatures are being planned for use in boiler rooms.
  • Utilization of Exhaust Heat – A project is underway to recover heat from boiler exhausts and use it to supply domestic hot water.
  • Gas Meter Installation and Experimental Billing – Installing gas meters and issuing trial bills for separate facilities to monitor and optimize consumption.

Energy‑Saving Measures

  • Thermal Insulation and Double Walls – Use of double walls or thermal insulation to reduce heat loss.
  • Insulated Roofs and Floors – Applying insulating layers to roofs and floors to enhance energy efficiency.
  • Double‑Glazed Windows – Installing double‑glazed glass to minimize energy loss through windows.
  • Climate‑Responsive Architecture – Designing buildings in harmony with local climate conditions to reduce the dependence on fossil fuels and mitigate environmental pollutants.

Increased Capacity of the Gas Pressure Reduction Station

Given that newly constructed buildings and faculties at the university required gas supply, and the existing station with a capacity of 2500 cubic meters per hour was insufficient, the station’s capacity was increased to 5000 cubic meters per hour in the summer of 2015. Consequently, modifications were also made to the piping adjacent to the station and within the station’s control room.

Equipping Student Dormitory Boiler Rooms with Dual-Fuel Burners

Given the importance of necessary preparations for emergency conditions in the event of possible natural gas cutoff, it was essential to procure and install dual-fuel burners (natural gas and diesel). In this regard, six dual-fuel burner units were purchased and installed across the university’s dormitory complexes by the Student Affairs Deputy.
